Week of 3/12- Thinking about Test Taking
One of the things I hear most commonly from first-year college students is, "I am just not a good test taker". Do you consider yourself a good test taker? Why or why not? Please give me examples. If you say you are a great test taker...what makes you say so? As you will find next week- being a good test taker involves more than just good test scores.
It really depends on what the class and if I study really good.
ReplyDeleteI am still learning how to take test the best way for me is to be a separate room from everyone else because it's quite. I did good on last exam I got a 78 in health and physical education.
I am still learning things.
That does help to if my teachers did allow me to take tests In a different room it might make me better
DeleteBecause its better for me and so I can focus more than in the class room which a lot of people. I have Disability services a letter saying I need accommodations for my classes , I like to have that because it benefits me. same don't use that service , but I personally found it helpful. it helps a lot for me. I hope to continue to use that service at RIC. I also have a mentor with me in classes which also helps me too.i didn't like taking text in high school because I was in the classroom with everyone and one student yelled I AM DONE While half was still taking the test.
DeleteI am a so so test taker .. sometimes with material I feel confident on when it comes to the test I don’t get as much as aniexty but with tests I’m not comfortable on I get bad test anxiety like I just forget everything and the material flys out of my hand and it dose t help my hands get sweaty and look around . But when I do have those good test taking skills I make sure I review my notes before the test starts and right before class I listen to some pretty calm music and that does help me before class trying to get my mind off the pressure
ReplyDeletei consider myself a bad test taker. Even when i study hard for a test i often receive lower grades expected. as an example the final exam for my bio lecture class last semester, i studied, wrote flash cards, and reviewed everything i learned and i didn't do as good as i thought i would. i do not know the reason why but i am horrible at taking test.
ReplyDeleteI don't consider myself to be a very good test taker. This is because when I get put under pressure of displaying what I learned on paper, I never feel like it's a real display of what I can do. I began using flash cards for the first time last semester, which helped, but I felt that I was always under prepared. I take notes often and look those over which help as well. In addition, seeing people get up after finishing their test while I'm still sitting or being finished before anyone makes me feel slightly uncomfortable. I perform better in presentations and projects because I feel that I'm able to expand and give my insight on the topics and answer everything in depth and use them in examples.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I am the best test taker. In my Math class this semester, I have done worse than I thought I would. I study, participate in class, ask questions, etc, but I still find myself with a B average in the test scores I have taken. I had an exam this morning. I felt lost and don't think it went very well. However, if it's a class I am really interested in, I tend to capture more and therefore getting better grades in those exams. I guess with me, it's all just a big maybe. In Math, I try and take more time in studying since its the one I have most difficulty with.
ReplyDeleteI am a good test taker when I know the material in hand however when I don't know any material in the exam thats when I start to get nervous and start to freak out because I have not idea what is going on.
ReplyDeletei am not a very bad test taker. i second guess myself all the time and sometimes i blank on what the answer is even though i study for days before. if the test has a lot of multiple choice i tend to do better because its easier to do possess of elimination. if i need to write an essay on spot then i tend to do worse.
ReplyDeleteI think I am a good test taker. I have a decent enough memory that is slightly photographic which helps when trying to recall information. Perhaps sometimes I get lucky but I generally get high test scores with minimal effort studying put forth. It may sometimes be luck or intuition on multiple choice tests, for instance when I took the accuplacer for math earlier this semester. I wasn’t very confident because I hadn’t taken a math class in at least six years and it isn’t my strongest subject. Somehow I was able to walk away with a decent score in a short period of time. I generally take tests quickly, and and usually one of the first to complete a test. I always go with my gut instinct if I am unsure.
ReplyDeleteI have consistently worked in restaurants so memorization skills are key when knowing what ingredients are on the menu and in a dish. Currently I work at a four diamond restaurant in downtown Providence. Each week a component of our menu completely changes, with entire menu changes occurring approximately 10 times a year. We are consistently tested on our knowledge of every component that goes into preparing each dish, the emphasis of allergens, and the inspirations behind each dish. Each week I study the menu for about twenty minutes and then participate in a group pop quiz called “pre meal” that involves educational discussions on food and wine. It is known that I always know what I am talking about when called upon. I am quite thankful for my learning styles and test taking skills.
I think Im a good test taker depending on the class, if its a math class im not a good test taker then I have to study extra hard and have to actually try my best to understand the material as go out my way and see a tutor and look for any extra help to pass that exam but if its English, or anything history related then I will try my best but I actually like the subject and will put my best effort and it wont feel like I am studying nut just reviewing materials im interested in.
